Upon starting to use your new prosthesis, you will enter an adjustment phase during which you may need to reacquire your typical oral functions. These functions encompass chewing, speaking, swallowing, lip posture, and ridge comfort. The following recommendations from Team M2M Dental may assist you in adapting to your new prosthesis and in its upkeep.
To prevent discomfort, begin with easily digestible yet nutritious foods. Suitable options for a gentler diet include fish, eggs, cottage cheese, cooked potatoes, oranges, and applesauce. In case of pain, take out the denture and gently massage the affected area with your finger. Allow the gums to rest, as making visible and precise adjustments will be quite challenging.
Our team at M2M Dental recommends that you chew using both sides of your mouth. Chewing food evenly on both sides will reduce the likelihood of the denture tipping. Avoid using your front teeth for biting, as this may cause the back of the denture to dislodge from the gums. Instead, biting with the side teeth will provide greater stability.
Discomfort while swallowing may only necessitate a slight adjustment to the denture base.
Following the introduction of new dentures, you may experience an increase or decrease in saliva production for several days. Exercise patience, as the saliva flow will eventually normalize.
